Ingredients
- 1 ½ litersapple cider
fresh, unfiltered if possible
- 3 piecescinnamon sticks
- 6 pieceswhole cloves
- 8 piecesallspice berries
- 25 gramsfresh ginger
peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 pieceorange
zested and juiced
- 2 tablespoonsbrown sugar
adjust to taste
- 1 piecestar anise
- 250 milliliterswater
Instructions
In a large pot, combine the apple cider and water.
Add the cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, allspice berries, star anise, sliced fresh ginger, orange zest, and the juice of half the orange.
Stir in the brown sugar, adjusting to your preferred level of sweetness.
Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
Reduce the heat to low and let the cider simmer gently for 20 to 25 minutes to allow the spices to infuse.
Remove the pot from heat and strain the cider through a fine mesh sieve to remove the spices and ginger slices.
Serve warm in heatproof mugs, garnished with a cinnamon stick or a slice of fresh orange if desired.
