- 150 gramsyogurt
thick and well beaten
- 2 tablespoonsginger garlic paste
- 1 tablespoonred chili powder
- 0 ½ teaspoonsturmeric powder
- 1 teaspoongaram masala
- 1 tablespooncoriander powder
- 2 tablespoonslemon juice
- 2 tablespoonsmustard oil
- 1 teaspoonsalt
- 1 teaspoonchaat masala
for garnish (optional)
- 2 tablespoonsfresh coriander leaves
finely chopped for garnish
Instructions
Clean and score the pomfret fish on both sides with 2-3 diagonal slashes. Set aside.
In a large bowl, combine the yogurt, ginger garlic paste, red chili powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, coriander powder, lemon juice, mustard oil, and salt to create the marinade. Mix well until smooth.
Apply the marinade generously over the fish, including inside the slashes and cavity. Allow the fish to marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours in the refrigerator for best flavor.
Preheat your grill or oven to 200°C (400°F). If using an oven, line a baking tray with foil and lightly grease it.
Place the marinated pomfret on the grill rack or baking tray. Cook for about 12 to 15 minutes on each side, or until the fish is cooked through and has a nice charred, smoky appearance.
Optionally, turn on the oven broiler for 2-3 minutes per side at the end for extra char and flavor, keeping a close watch to prevent burning.
Remove the fish from the heat and sprinkle with chaat masala and chopped fresh coriander leaves for garnish.
Serve hot with lemon wedges and accompaniments like naan, cilantro chutney, or a fresh salad.
